Every year, the entire city comes alive during Dussehra or Mysore Dasara - as it is locally referred to as - festival which is celebrated to pay obeisance to Godess Chamundeshwri who killed the great demon Mahisashur.
The festivities are spread across nine nights or the navratras and this year it will be celebrated from 25th September 2014 till 4th October 2014. The celebrations are held across the city which includes Chamundi Hill, exhibition ground opposite Mysore Palace, auditoriums and Maharaja’s College Ground.
The highlight of this Mysore Dasara festival is Jumboo Savari (the elephant ride) which starts from Mysore Palace and concludes in Bannimantap. This traditional procession also marks the culmination of the festivities. During the procession, the idol of goddess Chamundeshwari is carried atop a lavishly adorned elephant. Dazzling display of fireworks, stunts performed by daredevils on motorcycles and the laser show marks the crescendo of this event.
If you are spending a few days in Mysore then there are several excursions to keep you occupied and adds to fun and adventure of holiday in Mysore. Located nearby are a couple of national parks if you are interested in wildlife safari in India. Not far from Mysore is Brindavan Gardens & Krishnarajasagar Dam (19 km). Highlights of this garden are the musical fountain and illumination which are held between 0630 to 1930 hrs on weekdays and 1830 to 2030 hrs. on Saturdays and Sundays. The park’s opening hours is from 8 AM to 7 PM and the entrance fee charged is Rs. 15 (Adult) and Rs. 5 (child below 8 years). Additional camera fee of Rs. 50 is also charged at the time of entrance.

Yes! Kurseong, located 30 kilometers away is considered to be one of the

On the stretch that links the Kurseong Dow hill and Forest office, woodcutters and labourers have reported the sighting of a headless boy walking and disappearing in the forest.

Dudhwa National Park

From Lucknow, you can travel via road to Dudhwa, the route goes like this:Lucknow-Sitapur-Lakhimpur-Gola-Khutar-Mailani-Palia-Dudhwa.
The nearest railheads to the national park are Palia (10 Km), Dudhwa (4 Km), and Mailani (37 Km). However, one can also travel to the Charbagh railway station in Lucknow to reach Dudhwa National Park.
